LANTERNS PROCESSION
Our lanterns procession ushered in the Christmas period bringing colour and sparkle to a cold winter’s evening. It’s a wonderful community occasion uniting old and young and shows off the best of Ipplepen. Just to recap the prizes were awarded as follows.
The Child’s prize was won by Tallulah Zehal for her Elephant.

Lanterns
The Lantern making sessions at the Hub will be going on this month on Saturday 16th November between 2 and 4.30 and on Saturday 23rd November between 10 and 12.30. This is all in preparation for the big event which will take place on Saturday 30th November starting at 6.30pm.

We would like to pay our respects to John Eastley who sadly passed away in July. John was one of the founder members of the History Group in 2009 and he served the group with great distinction taking on the role of Chairman from 2012 to 2015.

Forde House
A group of over twenty of our members recently enjoyed a splendid tour of Old Forde House in Newton Abbot. Under the assured guidance of our tour host Michael Martin we were informed and entertained in equal measures. The most common reaction from tour party members was surprise that we tend to overlook or take for granted this historical gem right on our doorstep.

The project is looking for volunteers to talk with Year 5 students at the primary school about their lives. You don’t have to have lived in Ipplepen all your life, but you should be over 50.

Professor Stephen Rippon

There was an excellent turnout at the Village Hall for Professor Rippon’s update on Ipplepen’s archaeological dig. The original excavation dates back to 2010 and a picture has emerged of continuous occupation of the site from the Iron Age right up to the 7th century AD.
