DEREK GORE
We had a very good attendance for our autumn talk at the Village Hall. Mr. Gore’s theme was the Roman settlement of Devon and since he is an expert on all the recent research on the Roman invasion and the information from the latest archaeological finds it proved to be a very interesting evening.

November 2017 Newsletter

John Risdon
The guest speaker for our Autumn talk at the Village Hall was John Risdon. His theme for the evening was Raleigh and the Gilberts of Compton and Greenway. This was a big theme indeed and a theme that focussed on families. Anyone who has attempted to undertake any family research will be able to testify that families can be unwieldy and difficult diversifying into many different trails and cul-de-sacs.

Lanterns Procession

The lanterns procession this year will take place on SATURDAY 24th NOVEMBER at 6.30pm. The lantern making sessions at the Hub have been arranged for the following dates:

TUESDAY 23rd OCTOBER 10am – 12.30 pm

SATURDAY 10th NOVEMBER 2pm – 4.30pm

SATURDAY 17th NOVEMBER 10am – 12.30pm

700th ANNIVERSARY OF ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH
St. Andrew’s looked resplendent for the Re-dedication of the High Altar on the evening of May3rd. The Bishop of Exeter was clearly pleased to be present, both in the service and at the Church Hall for refreshments afterwards. The floral decorations and the displays by the school pupils and the churchwardens added to the occasion.
