February 2017 Newsletter

The Year 2017
As the days start to get just a little bit longer the Local History group is looking forward to the year’s events. Of course we will continue with some of our regular activities with talks at the Village Hall, Quiz evenings, the Lantern procession, our popular Facebook page and maintaining our valuable archive. In addition this year we will be contributing to the 700th anniversary of the consecration of St. Andrew’s Church. If you enjoy reading our posts in print or online and would like to help with sorting out our archive or just sharing some memories please make contact because we would love to hear from you. As well as general support there are some specific areas where we would appreciate your knowledge and advice.
Maintaining the Website
One area of practical expertise we are crying out for is familiarity with the Website creation tool WordPress. We need to adapt our existing website to one that is hosted by Modes but require some support to get started. If you have any experience in this field or know of someone who has please contact me.
Coach Trips
We are also keen to organise a coach trip to one of Devon’s historical sites. Buckland Abbey and Knightshayes Court have been mentioned as possible destinations but we are pleased to hear of other possibilities. Please phone or e-mail me to let me know if you might be interested.
Talks at the Village Hall
We have lists of local speakers but there is no substitute for inside knowledge so if you have heard or know of a good local history speaker feel free to contact us. You may also want to share with us possible themes for future talks – anything from pre-history to more modern times with a Devon slant.
From the archive…
Here’s a rather splendid vehicle but where is it parked?
